Month in Brief
The Global Opportunities Portfolio delivered +3.4% (AUD) in May 2026 and +3.2% (USD), assuming an equal 25% allocation across the North American, EU-UK, Asia-Pac/Japan and AI Infrastructure portfolios. The result was positive in absolute terms but lagged the MSCI ACWI benchmark by approximately 140 basis points for the month, as benchmark-heavy global equities rallied strongly.
The AI Infrastructure sleeve was the largest contributor to the diversified return, adding approximately +198 basis points to the global portfolio from a +7.9% monthly result. Asia-Pac/Japan added approximately +88 basis points, supported by regional AI supply-chain and electrification exposure, while EU-UK added approximately +50 basis points through European electrification, semiconductor equipment and grid-exposed industrials. North America was broadly flat, adding a modest positive contribution as grid, nuclear, utilities and power-infrastructure holdings consolidated after a strong prior run.
Market intelligence across the four underlying portfolios remained consistent: AI infrastructure demand is broadening beyond GPUs into memory, custom silicon, optical networking, data-centre power, cooling, grid connection and regional supply chains. Asia remained supported by Taiwan/Japan semiconductor and automation exposure; Europe continued to benefit from AI sovereignty, grid bottlenecks and electrification policy momentum; and North America remained positioned toward the physical power buildout required to support AI-driven electricity demand.
While May underperformed the benchmark at the headline level, the diversified strategy retained strong medium-term alpha: +17.0% active return over six months, +31.0% over one year and +15.0% calendar year to date in AUD terms. The portfolio remains balanced across AI infrastructure, energy transition, regional diversification and active risk management, with the key near-term risk being valuation sensitivity if AI-led market leadership narrows or bond yields rise further.
